OLEYELLER-Oleyeller AKA Duane, Originally from in Santee Ca., I grew up helping my father build dirt bikes and Triumphs TR-3 & Tr-4 for road racing events in California, Arizona and Mexico. While attending a vocational high school I was recruited by John Owens and asked to join Owens Enterprises as a fabricator and crew member. Owens Enterprises built and raced "Super Stocks" (NASCAR type stock cars) at South Bay, El Cajon & Irwindale Speedways during the early seventies. While attending Grossmont Collage and working as a fabricator / welder in the shipyards around San Diego, news of big money in the oil fields of Texas were calling. At the ripe old age of nineteen and with two hundred dollars in my pocket I relocated to Houston. Now some thirty-two years later, I'm still married to the girl I've known scene I was twelve. My wife and I have founded operated and sold two successful businesses and reared two great kids, in what seems to have been just a few months. I acquired a 1973 Volkswagen Type 181 "Thing" from my father in October 2003. I thought I was helping him make room in his garage for his new project. Little was I aware of the joy I would encounter spending late night's and long weekends in my garage laboring over a German car from Mexico. I want to thank the Volkswagen community in and around the Houston area for all their support and kind words over the past five years. I'm fortunate to have fallen in with a bunch of guys, all of whom have various views of what they want their Volkswagen to look and perform like. I keep telling them... "Keep it stock" I don't think their listening.
