I am new in a sense to VW's. Had one 20 or so years ago and just aquired another one. Ran awesome the first two weeks. It starts on the first time when cold but after driving an hour or so and turning off I have trouble getting it back started. Could it be the starter? I have no clue. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Does the motor turn over slowly when you try to start it when it's warm?
If that's the case, its a common problem on old VW's. There is a product the Gene Berg sells (probably others too) called a hot start relay that solves the problem.

The VW wiring system is pretty goofy, the power to the starter solenoid runs from the battery, all the way to the key switch, and then all the way back to the starter. As the wires get old, and connections get bad, the current has a "difficult" time traveling all that distance. The hot start relay bypasses all that wiring and basically takes power for the selonoid right off the battery.
Wolfsburg West has the kit: http://wolfsburgwest.com/cart/DetailsLi ... 111998611A
This *may* be your problem, but I can't guarantee it ;)
