I think my next project is gonna be a motor, not a car. I have a used universal case "longblock" that was given to me. I can use it in a T3 and any other future cars I might/will own. I think I am gonna build a stroker 1600 until I can afford carbs, big heads, and ceramic coated exhaust. After I get it torn down mabey you could look at it and let me know if the case is worth the work, or if I should buy a new one. I have a lead on a 74mm counterweighted crank with rods that doesn't require machining the case. What do you know about high ratio lifters and their matching cams?

Wow  you know your stuff with engines. I plan on putting together a 1776 or 1910 next year. I hope I can get some help with info on engine combinations. I've helped my dad put together alot of our Chevy motors for drag racing. Never built a performance VW motor.

No problem, I can take a look at it for you.
Cams and rockers have to be compatible basically, it depends on the design of the cam. Engle 100 series cams for instance should not be used with more than 1.25:1 rockers, where are 40- 80- and 90- series are designed for 1.4 and up. If you put too high of a ratio rocker with a cam it can lead to valve float, cam and lifter pitting, etc.

So, is there any inherent "danger" of running a high ratio rocker with a properly matched cam?

Its harder on the lifter bores, and you need to run "Hi rev" springs. Matching the hardness of the cam to the lifters becomes more important too.

I am waiting on my muffler to get "tweaked" as it doesnt quite fit the new ceramic header I got. Then, we need to run our cars...

I got mine running but with a stinger for now (which I hate). The cam (E125) idles and run way different than I have ever seen, or felt. Very strong!!! 8-)

Thanks Tommie! 8-)

I'll keep adding to it too, I basically have everything through the final long block assembly documented, look for more in the near future! 8-)
