 Post subject: help oil pressure problem

tonite we went to tomball in the bug and my oil pressure drops to about 5 pds when were at a stop light idling so i thought it was low on oil so i added a qt then on the way home it blew all the oil out of the vent tube all over the brand new deck lid we made all over the back of the car , the motor does not like extra oil in it at all,anyways we got back int he car after we stopped and checked it, and it seems to be fine but its weired i have 5 pds of oil pressure at idle and 50 pds of oil pressure when were driving ,any suggestions

low pressure at idle can mean a couple things. What's your idle speed? How hot is your oil temp? is it a new oil pump? was it align bored? is your oil pressure relief valve working properly? etc...

it really sounds like you have a junk engine, I am heading to the scrap yard tomorrow if you want I will stop by and load it up to haul it away for ya no charge w:pw

ok fellus ,the oil pump is new ,no line bore,my idle speed is 900 rpms,the oil temp is not hot at all i dont have a gauge,and as fair as i can tell the valve is working rite

did peter (I think thats who put it together) check the tolerances of the cam and crank bearings? usually thats what causes low oil pressure since you havent had that many miles put on the engine maybe thats what it is ??
