Does anyone have any suggestion of what weight oil to use for startup? I was planning on filling it with oil to start it with and run it, then drain and refill. Any suggestion for what weight to use after startup, for the oil that will stay in the car?

That's what I'm hearing - use 30wt for initial startup/run. I was going to drain/refill after first running - should I just use straight 30wt for normal driving or something else like 10w-40?

Are the cam/lifters new? If they are do the 20 minute cam break in and then change the oil. Then change it after about the first 100 miles or so, then in about 500, then go to regular intervals

Alright, I got a plan. If anyone wants to come out tomorrow (Saturday) around noon I'm gonna be doing some more work. Barkeep and I got a few chores done today but we didn't start the motor yet - hopefully tomorrow

So Sunday night left us with disappointment, engine would turn over but we weren't getting any spark out of the coil. Did have the fuel and air, though.

Monday - pulled the distributor out and took it to see Donnie. His infinite wisdom pointed out that the bolt used to pass current through the distributor for the condenser and coil was grounding out on the shell of the distributor. $3 in rubber grommets from ACE and we had that problem fixed. Still no spark. Replaced the point - now we have spark.

Still Monday night - first two tries were a no go. Third try - pulled the choke - fired right up and ran smooth as butter, nice and quiet. Ran it for a couple minutes and then shut it down. Hooked up a tach then fired it back up, had good rpms on the tach. Haven't timed it yet, that's on the to do list for tonight along with break in and then another oil change.

Everything looked good on post-run inspection except I am leaking some oil from the area where the motor and tranny mate. Hopefully I can track it down before the body comes back this week, any suggestions?

Yea, I am thinking this is the culprit (also known as the rear main seal?). Any other way to find out without pulling the engine?
