So I've got a pair of heads that I might be able to salvage after a good cleaning and I figured while I was at it I should probably split the case and clean it as well. Hot tanking sounds like the best option so I was wondering if anyone has a shop they like for this?

I would ask a machine shop and see what they would recommend. Media-blasting is always an option.

Thanks for the quick responses. I was hoping to get a lead on a shop instead of heading to the phone book..

Not a VW shop, but they have a hot tank. They did most of my V8 motors when I was into drag racing.

On further inspection the heads are shot but luckily I have a couple of other heads that I might be able to reuse (hopefully):

Mike and Evan stopped by and helped me get the case cleaned up yesterday so I'm thinking I might not go the blasting/hot tanking route. I know I couldn't eat off it but it should run just fine:
