I was wondering while I have my crank pully off if it would be a good time to check out the oil pump. But I do not know what to look for? Is it just wear or what would cause a pump to go bad? Any insight ? This is a stock 1500. Would a heavy duty pump be worth it?

Simple check of the mating teeth for smoothness and nothing odd looking should suffice. No need for a heavy duty one IF you have to buy one. Those stock motor pumps don't go out unless someone installed it funky or metal or trash has flowed into and trashed it.

HD pumps definitely aren't necessary, IMO. I'm running a 26mm pump, and I think that's what comes on late model motors stock. I'd pull it, inspect it, reseal it.

On the other hand, new pumps are like 30 bux. The oil pump is one of the most important parts of the engine....

Check the 'inside' of the square oil pump plate to see if the pump has ground grooves into it. Might not be a bad idea to sand that thing down (the part that will be next to the gears) and clean it really good.

I think Schadek is pretty much the only brand around. I'm sure it's Brazilian, just as anything else is.

Yup^
I think the only pumps out there are the Shadecks. I'm running their 26 mm and have like 40 psi at 2k rpm's.

I was wondering .. I did not use a gasket sealer on the paper gasket on the cover . Do I need to worry about it or take off the pully and cover and seal it. Also on the degree pull do I need to lube anything?
