So I rebuilt a new set of 32 PDSIT carbs for the Square. The main reason was I didn't have any chokes. They had been blocked off due to a vac leak. I get the new ones installed. 2 turns out on the fuel screw and 0 turns on the idle. I had adjusted the chokes so the lines lined up. I left the linkage disconnected from the center pull. I get it to fire up and it goes to about 3000ish RPM. The chokes heat up and dissengage, BUT no change in RPM. Still high. I had to retard the timing alot to get the rpm to drop. Im guessing I had such a crappy set of carbs and I got them to work somehow. And now with the 'new' carbs, that are flowing better, I had to retard the timing. I'm getting my Timing gun back from Mike in the morning to dial it in. Am I missing something, or does my hypothesis sound right? It does run smooth, but a bit hot. But then again, they havent been balanced or timed.

Hard to say big D, get the basics right first, i.e. timing, and go from there.
Do those carbs have "steps" like on a solex that holds the throttle plate open when the choke is closed? On some carbs you have to step on the gas to let the throttle come off the high idle steps once its warmed up...

The Carbs do have steps. The chokes are working. I'm going to go set the timing and sync the carbs. I'll report back.

Problem found!
The choke step spring isn't strong enough to completely dissengage the step once warmed. This caused the linkage not to shut all the way. I have another carb top I will be able to swap and I won't have to remove the carbs from the car. It should be good to go once they are swapped.....

Carb top has been replaced. I set the timing and then set the idle and balance. Recheck the timing and then readjust the idle and balance again. I think I have it fine tuned now. Runs really good. I need for the car to cool to make sure the chokes are setting correctly, but I have confidence that they will.

The important part about syncing dual carbs is this: Go back and forth between the timing and the setting of the idle/carb balance more than once. They are directly related. When you set the idle down it retards your timing. Not by much, but enough for it to be wrong when you think you are done.
