Vac adance dizzy is where its at, Doug your problem is your using a 009, period!

you guys forgot the third option, no dizzy w:pw If I want a RPM based curve no biggie, or if I want a vacuum based curve too easy. At whatever rpm or Kpa I can chose what advance I want, plus I has 4 coils  neener neener w:pw

Here is another view or example of timing...

Note:
the 019 has a full 20 +/- 2 degrees of curve -agressive from right off idle 800-3250ish rpm band while advancing
the 010 has only around 22 +/- degrees of curve- tight agressive much better for bigger motors.1100-2700
the 009 about 18-20 normally -dead then lazy to about 1100-3100

SVA-single vac advance - will be strong/moderate during full operation

SVDA-Single vac dual advance - use the vac to pick it up off idle to about 1200 then the centrifugal takes over from ther on out.

DVDA - same as above but has a vac for the retard when slowing down to help with fuel economy

here is a chart for general idea

did you put the spring between the distributor and the drive gear?
How sloppy are your distributor drive gears?

Doug- both those 009 could have a sloppy shaft, hehe.

Tommie- I'm editing too since this is about dougies lil problem and not my far left field setup. Option 3 is always out there ;)

the spring was left out and James put one in for me today, as for the gear I dont recall but Kostya put the engine together and I am sure he would have noticed if it was worn too bad.

I do have a 010 but would it still be better if I use a vac advance?

Awesome chart Tommie, that thing needs to be stickied somewhere.

On a side note, I need to cough up the money for a Pertronix unit for the 019 I got from you  .

Since you have a stock (it is right?) motor, I would say the vac dist would be better.
