All I know is that the 3 sets of 34 empi's I have messed with out of the box have been loaded
with crap shavings.. those are certainly not going to pass through any jet and hang.. maybe hang and swirl out of the way... then hang again ... and so on and so on..

I'd look to a full go through on the carbs and then see where you are at..

I also think a setof 40's would do wonders for power.. and looks in the engine compartment
and would be my personal choice everytime over singel throat 34's..

set of 40's?
what carbs do you mean? I bought some kadrons at the harvest and am planning on building them to eliminate the empi carbs.

Make sure its not your filters. My bus was doing that and it was just a fuel filter.

If they are IDF-type Empi repops, a quick and easy thing to do is to back flush the idle jet circuits with some carb cleaner.

The "idle" jets actually dictate the fuel mixture from idle up to 2500+ rpm's. They actually should be called "primary" jets since they dictate the mixture for most of the range of normal street driving. You really have to be pushing hard to get the main jets into play.

Just pull the jets/holders out and stick the little red carb cleaner nozzle tube into the jet holes in the carb body. With the air cleaners off you should get a nice strong stream out of the idle air inlet holes beside each venturi.

It's a quick and easy check without having to take the carbs off or apart.

I don't have any experience with the 34s, but I've run and heard a lot of good things about the Kadrons. They did really well on my old stock 1600.

Doug, just build a new engine!

I was thinking of having keifernet on the samba but after I read the last couple pages of reviews it seems he hasnt been returning emails and I am not about to deal with that.
I will probably just clean the carbs up and see if I can rebush them myself.

If the shafts aren't sloppy, then do a rebuild on them and run them. They are really easy.

I will even help you out if you like.

the shafts have some slop but I can always rebuild them and then if it is a problem, they are on their own seperate piece I can find the bushings and do them easily enough.
