What is an acceptable amount of rocker side play? I have more room on the intakes than on the exhausts. Thanks.

usually .005 if my memory is any good.. problem is on the intakes with solid shaft rockers.. you
go after 5 between each of gaps.. you start to get a lot of add up.. because those big spacers in the middle
move side to side. so you get 5 from base to rocker.. 5 from rock to spacer.. 5 from spacer to rocker and another 5
from rocker to the other base.. so when they shift it allows for a ton of movement..

the ones like Berg have a set screw on the large middle spacer to stop this.. some are machined properly..

this is just what is in my head right now.. should be some others that are way smarter than me that can assist with the answer
better..

Ok, that makes sense then. I do have solid shafts and when I measured the gap as one gap (not between each piece) I was getting .025ish which divided by 4 locations equals .00625". Thanks.

Walking to the printer here at work.. I think I went two steps to far.. with that floating center spacer it should be a total of .010 which would in hopes -give you .005 per rocker set.. same with the exhuast ones.. you go with like .003~.005 worth of side to side total from base to end cap.

your .025 is way to much.. and probably sounds like a loose valve adjustment at the same time..

if your center spacer doesn't float - then you'd be setting each rocker with .005 side to side clearance .. Base to center spacer

Sorry... I answer then think about things most of the time.. I should probably switch that up a bit :)

Ok, my center spacer does float and there's already quite a few spacers in there. I just adjusted all the valves so I know they are good. Only the exhausts were loose.

So it sounds like I need about .010-.015 more worth of spacers in there, right? I actually think I have some, I just gotta do the work.

I wouldn't get too bogged down in it, just make sure they are not too tight, you need some clearance so oil can flow.
