You ever just try to run it without the gas cap.

I found out that the carb floats were off on both carbs. It wasn't by much, but enough to make a big difference. I must have tweaked them accidentally one of the times I had the tops off the carbs. I went through them more times in the past two months than I have in the past 15 years I've owned them! It's been running pretty smooth this week!

I went through the wiring and found some corroded terminals in the main circuit from the alternator to the fuse box so I fixed those as well. It was mainly at the junction where the stock regulator used to be. I think by fixing that helped it run better too as there is more juice available for everything.

Needless to say I'm pretty excited. The floats had too much travel both high and low and one side was different from the other so it was really messing with the fuel levels.

The low direction wont really affect the way it runs, but the high direction... big time!
Glad you got it sorted out.

This thing is still eluding me. Every time I think it's fixed, the same issue pops back up again.

I was thinking the electronic ignition was acting up because it was acting like it had no advance but only sometimes. So I bought a new Bosch points and condenser to put in my original 009. It fired right up an ran great but only for a couple of miles. The timing was right on. Prior to that, the past couple of days it has been running great. I had replaced all the plug wires and re-gapped all the plugs. The plugs were pretty clean.

Cruising while maintaining speed it runs great unless I'm trying to go over 45. As soon as there is more demand on the engine, it starts cutting out, missing, and backfiring when I let off.

I spoke with Kermit at Kar Parts for a good while today and he is also stumped after I filled him in on everything I've done so far.

I can't recall if anyone suggests checking the ground at the trans mount near the nose cone.
