I can't recall if anyone suggests checking the ground at the trans mount near the nose cone.

It couldn't hurt.

Have you tried a different distributor? It almost sounds like the advance mech inside is broken. How are you timing the 009? Pulling rpms to 3200k and setting or are you doing it another way?

I had an engine that would cut out and pop when I'd rev it up. The motor ran great in one car then it sat untill I put it in another car. I tried everything it ended up being a loose head. I tightened the nuts I could by taking the rocker arm off and not having to pull the motor. They where clearly loose. I re torqued them and no more problem.

Not saying this is it but it's probly something simple you've just over looked.

Donnie smith at smith foreign auto in passadena tx would be a great person to call and run it by.

Also is the distributor hold down a nice shiny chrome one? I was told that they can cause grounding issues and also don't tighten down very well where the distributor can actually move and change timing.

I've checked the grounding straps and they are tight.

I've tried three different distributors with the same problem occurring. I've been using a timing light and setting from 5-9 degrees btdc, then revving it up and watching the advance go to 25-30. That means its advancing, right? To be honest, I'm lacking a little in timing skills.

The clamp is a chrome one currently, but I do have a non-chrome one but it acted the same as the chrome one.

The only thing I don't know for certain is the fuel pressure, but it's run fine for years with this same type of fuel pump.

Also, Kermit suggesting looking for an intake leak but I haven't had the carbs or manifolds off at all. I don't have a way to check for leaks.

Use some carb cleaner , spray around your manifold etc. see if you notice any change in the idle.. Just a thought.

Sure sounds like a fuel delivery problem, like its running out of gas under steady load. Never assume the fuel pressure is correct, get a gauge and check it.

Which one(s) would you recommend? I know there are certain types to avoid.

Dont get an oil filled one and, like anything else, dont buy the cheapest one.

Is that for the regulator or the gauge? I guess I should get both.
