I've had good luck with Holly regulators, and bad luck with cheap ones. What ever you don't, don't get one of those cheap ones with a dial on it where you set the dial at the fuel pressure you want... |

A regulator is not the problem unless you already have one and it's not working. Good to have one on a duel set up but not absolutely a must have item. |

Ok so I pulled the rockers and checked the head nuts. They were all pretty tight except I got about 1/8th of a turn out of the nuts on cylinder #4. Went through and set all the valves again at .006 and the timing is still good. I'm seeing 30 deg at 3000rpm. HOWEVER, now the hesitation is right off of idle. It will barely accelerate and it pops and spits a little, more so when I let off it. I can't even drive it now, where before I could at least get around. I called Donnie and the only thing he could suggest was check compression. His first thought was the carbs weren't right or the valves were off but I'm pretty sure it's not either of those at this point. |

Ok so unless I'm doing something wrong (which is kinda hard to do with a compression tester, right?) I'm only seeing a max of 35psi... Everyone knows it should be over 100psi. What would cause multiple cylinders to loose compression at the same time? |

Grit in the oil causing excessive wear in the cylinders? All the cylinders test around 35? Are they all the same psi or are the numbers slightly different? |

#2 and #4 seemed the same right at 35. #3 was about 30... I couldn't get the tester in #1 to check if it was similar. |

That doesn't sound like slow wear. It sounds like you had all your rings fail at the same time. How many miles are on the motor since last rebuild? |

It has about 20k on it... I was told that a heavier cam will give lower readings. It's an Engle 110. |

Hook up an air line and see where the air is escaping. If you hear it out the exhaust or carb it's valves If you hear it out of the oil filler it's the rings. |
