Post subject:  Rear Drum Issues

So I've had some issues with my passenger side rear drum. I started getting some vibration and when I went to test-fit another set of wheels, I found that the drum was real loose on the splines and the shape of the axle nut beat into the drum, with the splines almost gone. So last night I put a new (used) drum on it, drove it to work and over to Kermit's (75 miles), and now it's all loose again.

Could the splines on my axle be worn out leading to ruined drums? That would definitely suck having to pull the transmission.

knowing that you have pressed in studs, are you sure you are getting the proper torque on the axel nut?

Yup. I drilled out the holes bigger in the torque tool for the 14mm studs.

The axel is stronger metal than the brake drum metal. But if for some reason the axel was jacked up, and being a harder metal, it would continue to strip out the drums. I would take off both drums and measure the splines with calipers to see if they are close to eachother or have some noticible wear pattern. Pulling the trans for an axle swap will put the car down for a day or two.

are these german og drums? or mex or chinese? if german, then it's your axle. Chinese, it's the drums, and mex, it could be either.

If you need help pulling the motor and trans, and putting new axle's in, let me know
