Ok , I've cleaned up my trans ,,,,,, it had some paint before ... I was leaning to a clean aluminum case, but there are some areas that I just can't get the paint off.

So I was wondering what are the thoughts on painting it .... good ? bad? does it matter?

Unless its going to be a show queen, no one will ever know one way or the other but you. So if its important to you, do it, if not, then don't...

I second that!

Thats why VW started painting them. Earlier models looked raw but they had a coating on them to slow the corrosion factor down, but once you have stripped one down to clean it and have stripped all the coating and or paint they tend to get a salt looking build up on them. you should see my tranny I painted it and polished the ribs, now the ribs are chalky white.

Thanks ... I think I'm leaning to the paint for all those reasons .. maybe clear the polished ribs too.

LOL you dont wanna clear the polished ribs either ask Kostya what that looks like after a couple of months. Eric cleared the ribs on Eliots DC and it looked nasty after a couple of months.

Paint wont make it any faster, no one will see it, and a good heavy coat of oil and crud will offer protection against corosion factor

I thought dLk members painted everything, to include carb bodies w:pw

Thats was the most screwed up poll I have ever seen :redguy: I like a painted tranny, but a raw Aluminum engine case. When I rebuilt my nosecone, I put a nice coat of krylon bbq black paint. It turned out awesome, but talk about not being able to see it at all :hillbilly:
