Well, it all started with the thowout bearing clips taking a day off... Went ahead and replaced the worn out throwout fork, throwout bearing, clutch (OEM replacement - sachs), front engine seal, flywheel o-ring, rear trans seal, intake (don't ask), etc... Put it all back together and can only turn the engine 180 deg. WTF? Turned fine on the floor. It's a 1600 DP (AH) in a '63 body for those who are unfamiliar.

Was there a significant offset difference between the early clutch and the ones used on the DP's?

Guess I'm pulling the b apart again next weekend...

Other issue I'm having is clearance in the engine bay. I can't pull the engine far enough back to allow the clutch to clear the input shaft without a big azz pry bar and some torque. I'm hoping I didn't screw up the input shaft. This also was an issue with the old clutch...

I'm thinking air chisel and removable rear apron...

Something sounds wonky for sure, hard to say what w/o seeing it. Did the new clutch look like the old one? The clutch has to be for the right transmission. The later ones have that 3-bolt collar that goes around around the input shaft and the corresponding clutch just has exposed "fingers." The earlier stuff didn't have the collar over the input shaft and the clutch disk had a ring on it where the throwout bearing rides.
You should not have to remove your apron to get that motor in there, your car came with a 40-horse, which isn't that much smaller than a 1600. When I put the motor in my car, I have to remove the exhaust, all tin work, and the pully and even then it's a struggle. But that's putting a 1600-based motor in a car made for a 36 horse. Your combo should be much easier.

I think I had this issue before, even replacing an old diaphragm-style style clutch with a new one. The dimensions were off just enough for it to hit the bellhousing. Is it a 1600 going into a 6V trans?

Since you replaced the intake...Can you turn the engine 360 with it out of the car? I bought a motor for parts that was "locked up". Turns out, a nut was dropped into the intake, causeing the valve not to close and binded up the whole motor. a magnet got it out, and I had a good 1600DP for $50

Different style clutch than the one it replaced. I'm thinking that's the issue. As for the apron, I think it was hit at some point. 50 years is a long time to accumulate idiosyncracies. I'm about to light the little mofo on fire.

OK, finally got around to taking things apart and have the following glossy pictures unfortunately, no circles and arrows or thorough descriptions on the back (Alice's Restaurant, if anyone cares...).

Side by side: old early style clutch is 200mm

Is this some kind of unicorn or does someone make a 200 mm early style clutch?

Bolts aren't the problem... rivets are:

Seems to be seating on the crank just fine... Pretty sure it's the rivets.

Hep me...

The clutch disks themselves are nearly identical. New one has some springs imbedded but dimensions and the center portion are the same as the old one.

So, I'm thinking I may need to get the old clutch cover resurfaced and reuse it (if that's even possible). Here's a shot of the old one with some metal transfer from the throwout bearing and my intrepid assistant. Kept the mosquitoes away...

Paint the inside of your trans and reinstall. Turn the engine over as far as you can back and forth and remove and see where it's hitting. Clearance where needed and reinstall. It took me five times to get mine right.
