I think alot of people here know how to weld in patch panels. Clean the paint from around the area to be welded, use small tacks back and forth skipping around. No continuous welding, proper amount of heat, and welder set-up. Fitting the patch with 1/16" gap for MIG, little to none for TIG. Here is something I do that helps alot, use Eastwood's Anti-heat. You can feel the heat absorb into the product. This stuff helps alot. I had very minimal warpage on an unsupported 20g metal hood. Thought I'd share

Yup,, there's one called cool gel that works good too. It comes in a spray form, but doesnt run at all. It sticks where you spray it, and needs little to no clean up, washes off with a damp rag.

I remember you mentioning that stuff before. I'll have to see if I can find it, and give it a try.
