I am thinking my Empi 8 spokes might look better with black spokes. Would I need to have them powder coated or is there a paint that will work?

The spoke part of the wheel seems like it would take paint pretty good, but I do not want to start and have them look like crap.

I painted a set back in the 90's. What I did was lightly sand them, then paint one coat with hi-temp paint, like for a BBQ. When that was dried, I painted over it with a gloss black rustoleum. I ran them for years and never had an issue. I used the high temp paint because I assumed the wheels would get hot, and i didn't want the paint to flake. Not sure thats such an issue really with drum brakes, but there you go.

Cool. Thanks for the info. I guess if I fail too bad I can just take them and have them powder coated.

the only problem with taking them to get powder coated is that if they are chrome now then it will have to come off prior to being powder coated and that is kind of expensive to remove the chrome

They are just painted silver on the spoke part. The outer is polished.
