So I messing with my parts notch, and decided to take the heater boxes off of it. I thought to myself, "I bet I can clean this rusty ish up."
before-
after about an hour of soaking, notice the nice layer of surface rust. I does that instanly after rinsing the parts off. A layer of surface rust is ideal for a lil rust converter.
and after the rust converter-
and I don't want to toot my own horn but Meep Meep!
I started with some heavily rusted OG hard to find parts, spent about an hour and half and now I have some beautiful new looking parts...yay me!
Here is what I used:
3 gallons of muriatic acid (31.3% hydrochloric acid)
cheap plastic tub from wally world
chemical gloves
chemical googles
some cheap rust converter (phosphiric acid)
you'll be messing with some nasty stuff, take all applicable safety considerations.
WARNING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HCl reacts intensely with aluminum, zink, and magnesium. whatever you put in the acid tank better not having any of those metals on it or they will be gone in seconds. also the muriatic acid emits hydrogen gas which is very unhealthy to breathe. do this outside.
