Anybody have experience painting a steering wheel and dash knobs? Eric?
What type of paint should I use? I was going to start restoring the steering wheel on the bug and paint all the knobs to match.

Clean everything with a good STRONG cleaner (Tri-sodium phosphate) should work them wipe them down with some wax and grease remover. Dupli-Color makes a pretty good rattlecap dye, but not sure how well it will hold up on a steering wheel.

I watch quite a bit of pimp my ride and they dont paint very much interior parts, they cover using leather.
I think it is because painting the inside parts dont hold up very well.
but wouldnt those knobs looks killer wrapped in some fine leather.

that's cause they can't paint

Dylan, on the parts I recently did for Eliot's Vert I cleaned them with prep-solv, bead blasted, cleaned again, sealed them with PPG DP 40 epoxy primer, then base clear.

For a budget way out. clean with a prep-solvent, ethch with a red scotch brite, clean again, use Klean-Strip Bulldog adheasion promoter, then paint with what ever you prefer to use. I recommend a 2 part (catalyzed) paint for durability. Especially on the steering wheel.
