The outer part of the adjustment on the driver’s seat has a thumb lever used to adjust the backrest position. It looks like the thumb lever part is attached to a tube or rod that runs the full width of the backset to the other side of the seat. The thumb lever appears to be bent but I'm guessing that the part that is actually bent or damaged is the tube or rod that it's attached to with a pin. Before I take this apart, are any of you guys familiar with this issue and know what the fix most likely is going to be? Which replacement parts will I need to fix it?

Does anyone have an exploded view of this part of the seat?

SIDE NOTE: Were these parts originally color matched?

Frames where not color matched like that unless it was a pigalle. They would have been L43 grey-black. I dont think they sell repop parts to fix that you may have to find a donor seat.

Thanks for the help. I wasn't sure about the color. I wonder how hard it's going to be finding the parts I need. I won't need a complete seat. Someone may have a seat that isn't any good that may have some good mechanical parts.

Regards,

from what I can tell of the pictures you have posted, you have an early '66 Pigalle car. They have all red interior, and yes, even the parts for the seat mechanism's. I can't help you on parts to fix it, but I will say, don't throw anything red away, none of it is being re-produced. Good luck, nice car, welcome to the board

Pardon my ignorance but what does that mean, "an early '66 Pigalle car? Are you referring only to the color?

It's just a name designated for a particular interior package vw had.
The seats are easy to repair it's all held together with roll pins. Likely the knob is worn maybe a bushing can be used to repair and keep the original red parts.

You like how I said " unless its a pigalle" I wasnt sure since the seat covers had been changed if it was a real pigalle, and not just frames that had been painted red. If he had the correct rubber floors and seat covers I would have said right off the bat they where supposed to be red.

The original owner did say that the Red was the original color of the interior. The carpet behind the back seat although faded is also Red like in the picture.

Those cars that are done that way are desired. Erik knows more of this than me.

I was basing it off this pic

Image

the seat bases are red, which is a big sign, especially the metal panels that always get removed and thrown away. Also the door panels. 66 door panels are not reproduced, these are original as is the one year only armrest with the chrome strip. The seat covers have been re-done as the piping isnt going all the way over the back, but thats way way common. Very nice car, Me likey
