How hard are the e brake cables to replace? I'm rebuilding the rear axle seals and rear brakes so I figured it was a good time to do this. I disconnected the cable at the brake handle and the cable from the brakes and backing plate. Should it just pull out? It doesn't. Its stuck. How does the cable run from the handle back to the rear? Once I get it out how hard is it to fish the new line from the rear back to the handle? Thanks.

Its normally real easy to replace once you have all the nuts removed up front you have to pull it out from the back of the car.

pulling the rear drum is the hardest part, since you have it all apart should be a piece of cake to replace.

The cable did come out with some tugging and pulling. It was frayed and I guess it snagged on something. New one slid right in. How much slack should there be in the cable? (See my photos) Seems like alot but maybe I shouldn't judge that until the brakes are bled and adjusted. I compared the new cable vs. the old one and the length was identical. Another question. How hard is it to put on my new drum? I tired to slip it on and it didn't want to go. I also tied the old drum and it was difficult too. Maybe it needs a little force to go back on? The kids had to go ride the Polar Express train and see Santa so it was a short day in the garage. Maybe more time tomorrow???....probably not.

Looking at the last photo you posted, looks like the pads aren't "seated" all the way (bottom right). Are they new pads? If so, you'll have to play with the adjustment some.

Also make sure the adjusters (your bottom pic) where they match up to the shoe are at the correct angle. You may also need to be sure the brakes as a unit are centered, equal space all around.

Yes. All new brake cylinder, shoes, hardware, etc. I realized the adjuster screws were tapered so I think that's right. It all seems like it's got alot of slop. I assume that will tighten up as I get everything adjusted.
What's that general procedure? Get it all centered up best as possible. Put on the drum. Adjust the adjuster screws just short of the shoes dragging. Then bleed? I haven't read through the procedure yet.

Ethan and Doug are the self proclaimed brake bleeding guru's  lol, I'm just messing guys :redguy:

Here is how I do it:

adjusters all the way in, and eyeball centering the shoes
put the drum on
torque the axle nut
adjust the shoes till there is some drag on it
adjust the e-brake
bleed...rear right first, then rear left, front right, front left

done, light a menthol and drink a monster
