Yeah, I know, everyone's favorite topic

I seem to have lost some brake fluid over the past few years, not sure where it's going yet, I'll look into it... But one way or another, the brakes will need to be bled. What's the best way you guys have found for bleeding your brakes *by yourself*? I have alway heard that you are not supposed to bleed VW brakes by pulling a vacuum at the calipers, but that would sure be the easiest way to do it solo. Anyone know if there's any truth to that not working on VW's, and why? Other "solo" methods for bleeding them? BTW, I have a dual circuit master cylinder and 4-wheel disk brakes, if that makes any difference.

I use Craftsman Brake Bleeder Vacuum kits on two bug myself and don't see anything wrong with it.
Anyone else know?

A pressure bleeder that hooks up to the reservoir is the best and easiest way to do it. That's with a partner or by yourself. There is nothing to it. Do around the brakes 2 -3 times and your good. Start with the passenger rear, then finish with the driver front. Easy peazy.....

I have a clear bottle that I use.. fill it like a 1/4 way with brake fluid

I use a clear hose with the Brake bleeder just barely cracked open.. With the hose on the bleed nipple
and the other end in the bottle..

Now with a full reserve - I pump and watch for air bubbles to come out in the bottle.. it won't suck air back in
because the line is submerged in fluid..

I pump till the bubbles are gone.. and the fluid is clean.. as some junk can make it's way out also cleaning the lines
at the same time..

go back tighten the bleeder valve.. - Check the reservoir level.. and then pump the brakes to check for pedal..

I do all four by myself.. usually is pretty easy.. and not very messy if at all..

Tommie, I never realized your legs were so long! I for one can not reach my brake pedal while standing by the rear passenger side axle to watch for bubbles in the hose. For that matter, I can't do it from any other axle either

I guess that is why I am the "can you get that down for me" top shelf guy. :bs:
