All,

A friend of mine is having trouble with a fuse blowing that controls his gas gage & turn signals everytime he turns the key.
My first question (sorry, I'm a total NOOB) would be: If an electronic ignition was just recently put on the car, would that cause the problem?
Second, would it cause a problem with a bigger motor (1915cc?) to back to a point system?

Cheers !

Chris,

Did the problem start after installing the conversion? Looks like power is fed to that circuit from the coil. Does the car start and run? Might be a faulty (shorted out) conversion piece, or possibly hooked up backwards

yes, the problem started after a rebuild of the motor and converting it from points to Electronic ignition. should that be running to the same fuse as the signals?

I was looking at a 71 wiring Diagram

http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/inf ... bug_71.jpg

and it looks like the Turn Signals, Fuel Gauge and Hazzards all are on the same circuit

It looks like if you were to disconnect the electronic ignition and put a new fuse in it, it should isolate your problem. Fuse still blows, then check the wiring for shorts. If it doesn't , I would swap in a set of points and a condensor and give it a whirl.
