Don't expect an ignition system to make a night and day difference though, you may pick up a few ponnies, but nothing dramatic. Believe it or not the stock ignition systems are fairly capable of supporting some power. The main advantage of a big ignition system is you can open up the spark plug gap and hence expose more of the air/fuel mixture to the kernal and get a more efficient burn. Like I said though, not night and day...
If you feel your engine is not running as strong as it should I would start with the jetting. I would guess it's waaay to rich, that will most definitely make it soggy. Let me know your setup (carbs, heads, compression ratio, exhaust, displacement, cam, etc) and I'll try to give you some jetting advice.
dLk has a great chapter in Dallas, try to get to know some of those guys, they are cool mo fo's
