 Post subject: 4" Narrow and lowered L/P beam

Ok...easy with me. I am new at this front lowering stuff and whole other ACVW things for that matter.

I love the tucked-in look and able to drive it on Hwy and country roads alike (to and from work basically). I saw the look of the Smart car tires on Eliot's 62 Yellow Vert and i do like them as well.
This is what i have: A a 4" narrowed/lowered beam from airkewld (already on hand)
Car: 63 T1 sedan. Currently with just a lowering beam.
Rims: 5.5 BRM
Tires: 145s
Spindles: 2.5 already on hand and not installed

With this and other info I have gather, what I should look for if I install them?
-Tire rubs on headlight bucket if spindles are not installed and lowered too much.
-Lack of road grip as with 135s
-Some fender rub if 135's are used lowered too much
- 145s WILL definitely weather bottom-out or not

Have I missed anything? or what is the safest front end combo that have worked for you that included Hwy driving? I still want the tucked in and lowered look. I know I can have it both ways…can I?

Right now I'm running a 4" beam (no shocks - rides much better) with 2.5" drop spindles and 145s on 4.5" BRMs. I recently installed disc brakes on the front, so the tires rub on hard turns, but before the disc brake conversion, it only rubbed a bit on the headlight buckets.

Check out the thread on the '64 towards the end, you'll see the current ride height.

62, 4" beam, drop spindles, 5.5" spokes, smart car tires= NO RUB AT ALL!

I am also running those ULTRA COOL drop plates in the back that give you a awesome factor of X10 and 5 more HP. :P

buy smart car tires and sell your 145's
install drop spindles

Here's how I used to run mine with a 4" Franklin's beam, dropped spindles/disk brakes, and 135's.

Even with it that low, it only rubbed on hard turns. I run it a bit higher now, here's how it sits now:

Still fairly low, but absolutely no rubbing.

Yours should be fine, just put it together and see how low you can get it with out rubbing. The smart car tires will definitely help though versus the 145's.

Yup, a lot safer for sure. I haven't run 145's, but I can tell you that the 135's lock up *really* easily if you get on the brakes, even with drums. 145's probably aren't much better, there's only a centimeter more of rubber on the road.
