Keep in mind I did this on a type 3 but it will work the same on most type 1/2 as well. These are the double eyelet shocks.

I have been running a front GR2 "short" shocks with less then pleasing results. Actually the ride quailty is like crap, every little bump feels like a swift kick in the nuts. So I got on the samba and everyone seems to agree the Monroe's are where its at.

I just happen to have a gr2 shorty, gr2 regular length, and a monroe 5752 in front of me so I snapped a pic and compared their fully compressed and fully extended lengths.

Image

-Monroe 5752 retail $21-25
made in the USA
9.25" compressed
12.5" fully extended

-KYB GR2 343218 retail $37
Made in Japan
9.5" compressed
14.25" fully extended

-KYB GR2 343144 retail $37(I'm guessing, I got mine used)
Made in Japan
10.5" compressed
17" fully extended

Ride report on the GR2 shorties is that they suck on the front, way too stiff(and I like an aggressive suspension, but this is rediculous).

The dickhead PO chopped off the lower shock mounts so I'm going to try some of those off road mounts that bolt to the spring plate. I'm going to try the GR2 shorties, maybe they will work better in the rear.

I will update this post with a drive report on the monroe's after I fix my exhaust leak  . Right off the bat before the suspension even started to settle I noticed the front dropped .5" which is good, I want the front down more and rear up some. I think I can do that with shocks alone.

Any recommendations for the rear of my lowered 67? Where to by also. The reason I ask is I think my stock rear shocks are past their prime, and dampen very little. When I redo the front beam I thought new shocks out back would be a nice compliment.
