 Post subject: 68 bug spedo cable

As you can see in the attached photo the previous owner of my bug was more of a fisherman than a mechanic. How should the spedo cable attach outside the grease cap? I see some online stores sell an "E" clip or a "C" clip but I don't see a ridge for that to seat into. Also, I'm rebuilding the front brakes. The spedo cable doens't look to be expensive. Should I change it while I have this all apart or is that not something that fails often?

All you should need is a pin to kept the cable from pulling back in the cap, the cap provideds the drive.

about 20 dollar part . Cap needs to have square hole to turn the cable.

Looks like the fisherman has it rite. Pretty neat idea. If the cable is not making noise then I would not replace it.
