Copied from another forum I'm on:

Quote:
so if it hasn't happened to your account yet it will. Photobucket silently changed the TOS and now 3rd party linking which is the sole use of photobucket is now turned off for free accounts, they want like 400$ to reinstate this function.

so get ready for tons of pictures not found in threads

So yeah... all those years worth of build threads, event threads, etc, are about to become completely useless collections of red X's and text that loses it meaning without pictures. I don't know of any other pic hosting website that we can use that allows 3rd party linking... looks like we're screwed. It was fun while it lasted...

For anyone interested, here's the thread I found out about this on, there's a lot more info in there: http://www.rc10talk.com/viewtopic.php?f=39&t=41908

400 seems strange. Ive paid for my photobucket account for years. I do it in blocks so I dont recall what it cost but its under 10 bucks.

Yes, it's a lot, but that is the minimum amount to get 3rd party hosting under the new terms of service.
Rumor is photobucket is about dead and this is a last ditch effort to stay afloat.
Supposedly they are implementing it in waves, starting with newer accounts first. I've heard it's already wreaking havoc on many forums. As of this morning my pics are still showing, but it's just a matter of time.

We may need to have a separate and serious discussion in the business section about the future of this forum if all that content disappears...

Red X's would be far less annoying... they are holding our pics for ransom. For a mere 400 bux you can set them free :furious:
F##K you, photobucket.

This is from someone on another forum I'm on, hasn't happened to my account... yet

yeah I saw that. I also have seen an entire thread that every post has been taken over with that same image.

this is really going to suck. I have over 20K images stored on Photobucket. Half of it is business. I am going to start mass downloading all my albums.

in the short term people are scrambling to go to other free host services. this will quickly overload them and start a cascade effect of them switching to pay sites. that leaves social media as the main load holder. thus it is easier for the entire user group to flip over to facebook in even greater numbers then before.

daily content will drop off even more then usual. there will be no reliable free hoster of images and the entire thing will grind to a halt.

we have all seen the massive drop in user content over the last few years on all forums, now it will accelerate.

See FaceBook is behind it all...lol

FB blows, I hope we're not all reduced to using it...

try www.imgur.com it's the largest image hosting site now. It has a really easy way upload images and grab the html links for forums. Let me know if you need help figuring it out.

Photobucket finally got to me, all my pics are gone :(

I'll check out imagr, I'm on Flickr right now but I don't like their mobile app.
