Whats up with the two holes on the deck lid below where the license plate goes? Mine has the same holes and I cant figure out why.

its probably a license plate mounting bracket of some kind

My plate is still on there with the mounting bracket, they are 2 to 3 inches below the plate.

Yes sir it's where the Euro mounting bracket go they hold on a plastic or metal frame that the big square Euro plate mounts , snap into. Yea the Euro plate for the rear of the Bug are a big and square thats what I used on my car when I lived there

Makes sense, my bug was brought from overseas by a serviceman. Now should I leave them there or weld them up?

I say weld them up they will never be needed or of any use to you
