in need of a distributor set up for my car its not starting and my friend who is a mechanic told me its is probably the distributor.. i honestly have no idea ive changed the filter (which was filthy) and that didnt solve it obviously i dont know enough about my car yet to trouble shoot i was planning on giving it a tune up any ways new plugs wires all that good stuff just trying to find one is been tough hit me up 832-588-1884 thanks

lots of cheaper parts in a distributor. If it is truly that and not something else, points and condenser are your issue. pull a spark plug wire and see if its sparking. pull the coil wire and do the same. the sparks should be bluish white, if they are yellow your coil is going out, if there is none, your points closed up or your condensor is bad. hope this helps

basically i was driving without an issue and it started back firing and sputtering, then completley stalled out... i spoke with doug he told me maybe something with the fuel, hence changing the fuel filter and checking the hoses.. i have not checked the plugs yet i will do that here after i finish this damn bottle of dead guy ale hahahha i will kepp you guys posted on my findings lol.. thanks for you wise words..

Condensor going bad will cause you troubles as discribed. I had a intermitting issue like yours that resolved with just a condensor..might as well check the points too.

what would you say to it being a ignition coil going out? it looks pretty old and the cap and rotor on the distributor look new

Basiclly like Eric G said check spark. If spark looks good and points are gapped right . Look to see if gas is pumping.

basic air , gas , spark.

I'd change the points, rotor and condenser. I carry spares every where I go. The last time I changed mine was at in a d out burger in Austin. Started running bad on the way there and would not crank once I got there. Changed them and no problems since.
