Taken back in '69 at the now gone Houston Drag Strip in Dickinson. A few may remember where it was but if not, its where the Wal-Mart parking lot is now.



Car was powered by a 371 Olds engine and did very well for its time...

Houston International Dragstrip, I remember it well. I was sitting on the fence when they fired up the jet cars. My uncle told me to get down, I did get down but not when he asked. I fell off when the jet cars took off, scared the crap out of me.

I had raced there once back in '86. Thought that was the neatest thing ever since that was the first time I ever raced legally.

You could still see the track lights still lined up, and staging lane area among all the overgrown brush... just a few years ago.
Until they started developing the area.

Does anyone remember the Drive-In movie that was on 45? We used to go there with as a kid.

I remember as a kid, driving past it on the way to Galveston... and seeing boobies, 40 foot high!!! Awesome!

I always pointed out the finish line time board to my buddies but they had no idea what i was talking about.

Yes I remember the drag strip. My classmate Donny Gay Jr raced his car out there. We use to go hang out in his race trailer and talk and then he'd race. The last time I was there his chute didn't open and he ended up in the cow pasture. Yes, there were cows out there.

I also remember the Drive in Movie Theater. Use to watch from the feeder street. Had another classmate that worked there serving Pop Corn. I took some photos of what was left of the place, but not sure if they are still on her site or not. This was in La Marque, Texas. There use to be one in Texas City as well.
