Bad news. well i made it to mcdonalds and as we left and started our way onto the freeway my car died. I just filled up at the gas station next to our meeting place so I thought it was water in the fuel.. Well it turned out to be the electric fuel pump i bought at karparts it was fried. it was an hour before the nearest autoparts store opened and Kostya, parents, and nina hung back to drive me to get a fuel pump. ( BIG THANKS TO KOSTYA AND FAM). Well we picked up a mr. gasket pump rushed back to the car praying nobody smashed into the back of it. You guys should have seen kostya and I we looked like a nascar pit crew trying to change out a fuel pump in record time.lol She started right up but the troubles did not go away.
she was poping, sputtering, and bogging like you wouldn't believe. We turned off of the freeway and stopped into the next gas station and tried to get her running smooth again. Well we had no luck and was forced to waive bye to Kostya and family as I limped back home with the bug. After taking apart the carbs to make sure any of the jets were clogged and put everything back together she still continued to run like crap. i tested the theory of the new pump drowning the carb so I started the bug with the pump on and she started to run like crap and then i switched off the fuel pump and after a couple of seconds she ran smooth and reved great. I repeated the test and came up with the same result so i will be investing in a fuel pressure regulator since this pump is rated for 4-7psi and was the only one they had. Well its time to go shopping and I'll keep you guys posted.

Sorry to hear about your troubles John. Dont' skimp on the regulator, buy a Holly or some other good brand and never look back.

We were disapointed that you didn't get to roll into Austin with us John. Sounds like you solved the problem though. Like Duane says, it always pays to run in numbers with these old classics.

Doh!
I always hate it when I need to pull my tank and it's full. Luckily I can get to my pump pretty well just by pulling the passenger side wheel. Anyway, glad to hear you got it sorted out John.
