All: I know most on the forum aren’t in the Phoenix area but just a quick heads up, Blair & Son Auto Parts, a long standing VW salvage yard is closing up and selling everything off by summer, anything left will be crushed... I’ll be making a trip and can keep my eye out for items if anybody has any requests... we’re loosing too many of these places.

It's funny to think about how old these cars are, and how it's become such a niche hobby. When I was a teen and started driving VWs in the late 80's, they were everywhere! You could hardly give them away. Now if I see one on the road I feel lucky, and that's here in So Cal where there was probably more of them than about anywhere. Sadly, it's a dying hobby.

Yeah, I remember riding with my mom always guarding my shoulder from my brothers punching me shouting "slug bug!"... I had to explain that to my kids because its such a rarity nowadays to see a bug and get to legitimately punch one of them lol!

We had one close here recently as well. They will all be gone in the near future. I think it is mainly the fact that the younger generations don't really car about cars as a hobby much less even driving. In my own household my oldest son didn't get his license until he was 18 and my daughter who will turn 16 has expressed no interest in driving.

Same here man, my two oldest were just like yours. I grew up in Idaho driving for harvest when I was 8 lol, driving and tinkering in the shop was life back then and therapy now. I’m going to go find me a nice shell for a Baja!
