Well, these wont help you guys, but spent the day digging around in fields and following up on leads. This is some of what I found.

'57 Barn Find.

Claims he has the title. Think this counts as a barn find? :D

When I was a freshman, me and a guy I knew then used to run the streets in this. It had a 1600 w/dual carbs and a stinger. He shaved the rear tails and put one of those Mexican blinker bumpers in the rear with the tails in it. Subsequently, we got pulled over ALL THE TIME. Later we would drink beer and chunk the cans through the holes in the pan. I wondered what happened to it. Sad to see it sitting abandoned, thought about getting it back for sentimental reasons, but I'm not a big late model beetle person anymore. :)

Did I say 57? I think he said 59 on a 66 pan. Is a 66 BJ? I'm not beetle smart. :)
