Actually, I live in SW Louisiana (near Lake Charles) with my wife (both of us r retired, me at 59-1/2 in 2015). I'm an old mechanical engineer and perform technical consulting & project management full-time or part-time (internationally and domestically). :)

Traveled on consulting business numerous times to Santa Anna in 2017 & 2018. Visited businesses in around LA and south to Oceanside. Took photo from George's at the Cove, Ocean terrace in LaJolla. Went to George's a few times. Really pretty part of CA, I think. 8-)

Ran across the Red Vert photo and also my buddy Scotty G Money's '56 LHD Bug while I was rearranging photos on my home network NAS.

Hawaii photos were while on vacation. We try to go to Hawaii ~every other year (maybe 9-10 trips over the years). We fly out of Houston generally to one of the islands direct or thru LAX.

Correction that's Scotty's "RHD" bug. Manufactured in Australia VW Plant, I think.

Wow, very cool!
Mechanical engineer here too. I invent and design things to fix heart disease at a company in Irvine, CA.

Brian, Irvine is nice and what a great application of your ME education for heart disease.
FYI, and I've passed along your phone app info to some local autocross buddies. I don't autocross but they do.
The Autocross track events were routinely set-up at an airbase/airport east of Lake Charles named Chennault Airpark. It has a runway long enough for B-52's and apparently was used that way in WWII, etc. It is used total for special air craft retrofits, instrument upgrades, etc.
But the Airpark is expanding and taking back large portions of the tarmac and other paved locations. Thus, the Autocross is looking for a new local venue for this fall. :!:

Yeah, it's a shame that race tracks always seem to be closing. Before I found PureTrack, the folks I autocross through now, I would have had to drive all the way to San Diego or LA to autocross, and then would have needed to commit a whole day to it each time, both of which kept me from doing it. PureTracks events are often at Angel's Stadium, which is literally like 2-3 miles down the street from me, can't get much more convenient than that! But now, i think they are talking about building a new stadium for the Angels... so I don't know how long that parking lot will be available.
They don't want people racing or Hooning on public streets (which, people shouldn't be doing anyway, but that's another story), but they always seem to do everything they can to shut down race tracks.

Luckily, in the Dallas area, the autocross tracks are in the multiple parking lots at Texas Motor Speedway (1hr from me) and the other is at the horse race track in Grand Prairie Lone Star Park (15 min from me). Always a lot of fun! However, I really enjoy running the "real" road course tracks out here (Eagle Canyon Raceway, Cresson Motorsports Ranch). I see a number of classic cars running, but haven't seen a bug yet. Sure would be neat to see you throw down in the bug, Brian!!

Cool, you guys are lucky. There are a couple road race tracks around here, I do hope to get the bug on them at some point. I'm sure its way more fun then autox.
