I have a few issues. First what do you guys say about the electric choke? Mine is currently unhooked and I dont really have any problems. I've heard that the choke is more trouble than its worth? If I decide to hook it up it just needs a hot wire from the coil right? Thoughts on that?

Second the idle cutoff switch on the side of the 34 Pict 3? I guess that should be hooked up right? I assume it just needs a hot from the hot side of the coil as well?

Lastly I installed a new short throw shifter on my bug and have been having fits getting the shift plate adjusted right. I miss second gear every time. Any tips on getting it set right?

Thanks for any input!

I run the electric choke on mine. No problems. Have you rebuilt the carb lately? Do you have an extra 34 pict? Not a bad idea to always have a rebuilt one handy.

on the electric choke: I believe it is necessary in colder climate areas. I may be wrong...

Yeah I rebuilt the carb about 9 months ago. There was alot of wear internally to it, So I know I may be up for a new one soon.

If the choke works, adjust it properly and use it... why not?

You have to use the idle cut off valve if you want the car to idle. If is is stuck open or something it will function fine with out it, but potentially you could have run-on when shutting the car off.

Shifters are funny, sometimes you just have to experiment with them to get them to work. Loosen the two bolts and try sliding it a bit on one direction or the other and see how it changes. experiment like that till you get it.
