Since the 40 horse is still with me I decided to tear it down, figure out what is good or bad with it and possibly use it for a while if I can get it going.

I like to use oven cleaner for a lot of hard to clean stuff.
So has anyone used oven cleaner for their case or heads?

Edit: Looking through the forums I found a couple topics about case cleaning and am reading them.

Is there a way to merge this into one of the other topics.

I think I have some of that in the garage now. I like the oven cleaner because it is pretty cheap and cuts through just about any gunk real quick.

i have never used oven cleaner on heads, but I have used it on several cases, as well as my tranny, and had no issues with it.

ive used it on v8 blocks but they are steal...it will only discolor the metal if there is a reaction its not like it will eat a whole in it....i would not use it on the heads either...

i wash them at the car wash with the car wash degreaser and my own bottle of purple power....

I've used oven cleaner on cases before, didn't seem to hurt anything.

OK, I emptied a whole can of MEGA oven cleaner on my heads about an hour ago... Good news, they still look like aluminum heads :redguy:
