I came across your site because I saw something about the car show at Sandy Lake Park July 8th. I'm going to come and bring the kids.
I don't have a VW any more but I've built a couple rails in the past. My most interesting was a 101" invader frame rail that I built back in 2003. As you can probably tell from my SN it had a 2165cc with a T3 turbo. I was probably the first in the DFW area to do this. I only knew of one other turbo VW back then and it was a drag racer out of CA.
My rail was street legal and I drove it ALL the time. On 10psi it made 120hp to the wheels, at 18psi it made 234hp to the wheels. It was a ton of fun to drive but like most of my toys I "got bored" and traded it off. I've been kicking myself ever since. It now belongs to a guy in Austin TX.
Here are a couple pics of the rail. I'll also post pics of my latest toy. Its a 69 GTO Judge clone with a Turbo LS1 motor making 535hp 558tq to the wheels.
the set up (all built in a one car garage while the frame sat outside under an easy up tent for the chassis work) the motor and tranny were both built by Tommy Jenkins (some of you might know of him from the Irving area)
the rail after I traded it..It was blue when I had it but the guy that I traded with painted everything else blue
the only video I have of the rail. This is the second pass on slicks (no bars) the first was OUT OF CONTROL.. I launched WAY WAY too hard so everyone wanted me to do it again but I was a chicken and only did a light launch the best pass was a 6.99 1/8 mile obviously
