Looking for a VW mechanic in Houston to do the following work on my 1961 Beetle:
- Install a new wiring harness that I purchased from Wolfsburg West (6volt)
- Replace front and rear wheel bearings
- Re-attach the original fuel line
- Rebuild OEM carburetor
- Optimize engine performance keeping everything stock Not opposed to a complete rebuild if necessary (It was rebuilt in 2007)
- Check transmission and rebuild if necessary
- Perform a complete inspection and make recommendations

Goal is to keep the car as original as possible and making it a dependable daily driver with some of the 53year old patina remaining. Not opposed to shipping the car to a shop out of town if necessary, preferably in Texas.

Also looking for an upholstery shop to replace the very worn, all original interior upholstery including headliner.

The is also Smith Foreign Auto http://smithforeignauto.com/

There is also Arjona for interior. http://www.arjonasupholstery.com/

But I will say that pretty much everything on your list are easy things that can be done at home aside from rebuilding the motor and transmission, and even those two things can be done if you have a little bit of motor knowledge. Most people charge shop rates from 55-85 per hour, what you have listed would cost thousands in the end.

Thanks for the recommendations, I will be contacting the shops today. I've already performed a complete brake overhaul and replaced the shocks, unfortunately I just don't have the time to do the rest of the work and my '61 is just sitting in the garage as a conversation piece. I don't mind paying a shop to finish the work so I can it get it out on the road and start enjoying it.
