Hello. My name is Bill Sykes Jr. Volkswagens has been in my family since way before I was born. My dad, Bill Sykes Sr (who is the original owner of his 1963 Type l that he bought in Germany) has pictures of me in diapers helping him working on stuff. So you can say its in my blood. I learned how to drive in a meyers manx dune buggy that he built. I was 14 years old. Growing up we have several Type ll's that I remember playing in. Most were panel buses.
I helped him with the 5 year frame off restoration of Babylove and mentioned to him that I would like to have a Ghia. Well as time went on, he did some trading and he gave me a 1970 Karmann Ghia CV. I was shocked! At first was going to rat rod it but after some research the car was in better condition than I thought. So I had a "friend" paint it. It took years two years to get it the way I wanted it. Its a blast to drive and it turns heads where ever we go.
I just acquired another project. 1973 Type 1 standard beetle. It has been in a barn since 1986. It's a 2 owner car. Has 102k original miles. Have all three original owners manuals. The motor has been rebuilt but is the original motor with car. It's ready for paint and needs to be put together.
