what is the best mountain bike out there for the money right now...my criteria is that it must be a hard tail since i already own a cannondale full suspension and dislike it xtr components sold to my father) i looked at scott bikes today and found a nice one for $1300 my price range is from say 1000 to 1500 max...

im realy wondering what brands to buy and what brands to stay away from..i used to ride for the city but i have been out of it since 2001 so much has changed

I'm a fan of Gary Fisher. I've abused the shit out of mine and its still going strong. Well, I did break the crank a couple of times. Somethin' about a fat kid being to heavy on the pedals........

I like the Surly 1x1. Gunnar also makes a sweet hardtail. I think both are smooth steel rides. I found an aluminum KHS garage sale frame and built it up as a single speed, it gets me around the trails.

It's a tough choice, there's also the world of 29ers...

Good stuff, Billy. When the weather dries up a little myself and a few other guys are going to hit up Memorial. I will let you know when.
