I had a similar situation where I paid for shipping as part of the transaction. Apparently that's a big no no...

Why is that??

my update from last week that didnt get posted here.

first things first. Sprark plugs - NGK B6HS. Valve adjustment. File and gap the points, scrape up the contacts inside the cap and on the rotor. make the carb linkage the same left and right (still not correct, but it's a start) Fire it up. Major exhaust leak, lots of stumble

click to see video and hear the horrible noises LOL

today's progress and setbacks

carbs removed, orange permatex gaskets removed (ugh!). The solex shafts need help. I can feel a small grove, I can see some air gaps. One side has a black split shaft block, the other completely missing. This is what makes split shaft carbs actually work correctly. I rigged it best I could without new ones. I'm hesitant to spend much time on these, because I think it will be worth it to me to swap to Dell 36's or 40's if I can find a nice pair. I'm getting quotes of $1K and up to fix these. New timing light is awesome (Hooray tools!) at 950 idle its back about 3 degrees, 30 at 3K rpm's, so seems that my distributor is good. Thats good. New gaskets, added carb to manifold spacers (not sure there was even room for the split shaft to work without them...). Tightened down #1 exhaust (the rest need tightening too, but that was the worst)

because of the butterfly to shaft gaps and a little side to side play, I've still got a little popping and sputtering, and coming down to idle is an issue. also messed with the linkage a bunch. I don't own a carb snail yet, better get one, I'll need it for the dells too. Hopefully, tomorrow I can get to the brake lines and take it for a little test drive. I've still only driven around the block, once

anyway, video below. You can hear exhaust leak and how long it takes to bounce down to idle

I've got a carb snail flow meter if you need to borrow one. I drive through town every day so I could drop it by whenever.

Update time. Kostya talked me into rebuilding my rear brake calipers. They were locking up and not releasing. Also, $350 for a rebuild, with a $500 core charge. I did find brand new rears from Porsche, $1350 for two calipers, no pads or anything. So, started tearing them apart sunday, kits are on the way. I also managed to find already rebuilt OEM front calipers for $45 each, with a $75 core. Waaaaaaayyy cheaper than anyone else and it was the only set available

Also found some nice Dell 40's, and got some input on the vents and jets needed. sweet. The guy I'm getting them from is jetting them per my specs, and should work straight out of the box (right, we'll see about that) Adapters to fit the stock 356/912 manifolds since the regular dell/weber manifolds require cutting of the tins and make spark plug removal a pain. Everyone says these adapters are the ticket.

going through a funk...family stuff.

So I bought some fuchs today. Funny, but I'm going to take them out of the box and scotchbrite them right up and ruin them with a million scratches. should be a fun way to get a reaction...

just gotta decide which tires I like. Anyone using the firestone blackwall F60 165-15's? I think theyre probably better than the nankangs, and $160 a piece for michelins aint bad, but this car is never going to see 150mph...

Everyone seems to like the vederstein 165's but I don't like the tread going over to the sidewall all funky on those

What finish are the Fuchs? Are they originals like you posted a few pages back?

if you get a chance can you post a pic of the tread and sidewall? Just looked em up and those are T rated, better than the firestones and cheaper. Thanks

And Mark, I think I'm going to attempt that finish myself. Dude wants $1800 out the door, I just paid $600 shipped and I think all he uses is a scotchbride pad lol. A little taping for the darts, dremel on the dot markings and I should be in it it for $1172.50 less lol

1 vote for firestones lol
