Done for now with the Camper.

As for the Oval, it's an ongoing project to make it more and more correct. It suffered an '80's CalLook Resto job several years ago and then sat for a close to 20 yrs. During that resto, she was put on a '70 pan, dechromed, was fitted with a louvered '64 Decklid, '68 rear fenders and some big @ss side view mirrors. The dash was cut for a billet guage cluster, interior redone with GTI front seats and basically just done in all the latest 80's stuff. It looked like an abortion! :X When I got her she was motorless and looked like this...

Since I got her, I added a 1641 motor (out of my then daily driver '65 Bug) and I've redone the front end and brakes (all a a result of her sitting up so long). I swapped over to wide 5 drums, added US bumpers and the correct horn grills. I just recently got (finally) but haven't installed a '56-'57 W deck lid and a decent set of og rear fenders. I've also got a full trim set except for a hood badge. And last but not least I got her new shoes...

I got her in Sept '07. Short version of a longer story is my father owned and drove a '57 Oval Ragtop when I was younger. In fact, he drove me home from the hospital when I was born in it :) He gave me a '72 Standard when I was 15 and told me 'It's not an Oval like mine son but it'll get you around' :nono: 20 yrs later and too many VW's to count he was still ribbing me every time we talked about never being able to find an Oval like his. It was a running joke with us :) So when I picked this Oval up, I was already dialing my Dad's # while pulling out of the driveway with it but got no answer. A few seconds later my sister called me to tell me my father had just passed away..... So it makes me feel @ peace knowing he went to sleep never knowing I got one. I'll never, ever sell it. It'll be with me forever and one day it'll be redone the way he liked it, bone stock but low and in his favorite color, twilight blue pearl metallic.

Her with my gf on Halloween... Peace Out
