More weld, grind, hammer, weld grind hammer. I got a low spot even with taking my time. I think I need to order a shrinking disc as I don't own a torch... yet...

Also need to get some more dremel wheels for the radius as it is too tight for my 4" discs.

But I'd say the before and almost after are starting to look a lot different.

Been working on some side projects when not travelling for work.

Image
Pulled the fuel injection out of the 'donor' 1960 beetle as it had a vacuum leak and a whistle coming form somewhere. Started matching surfaces. Have the hard to find gaskets on order.

Image
Got curious why the #1 cylinder was 20lbs lower on a compression check than the other cylinders...

Image

Well... there's the culprit. The heads are cracked between the valves. Funny how the one with the worst crack actually held the most pressure.

Image

Was also trying to rebuild the 'new when parked' Brazilian Solex 30pict carb, but the accelerator pump cover disintegrated. I found a german replacement.

Image

From dust to dust. I was shocked at how paper thin this part was.

Image
Started stripping the old paint off my Knock off EMPI 5 spokes. These were originally grey painted wheels, which I polished the spokes, and paint detailed black. They looked great for about a year, but really need some loving. Probably not going to run these on the Oval, but will likely bolt them on the '60.

Well, no pics to report this week. I traveled most of the week. I'll have to try and get more next week.

The only update is I spent the little time I had off this week finishing grinding and sanding all the previous paint off the 5 spokes. To be honest, I should have just bought a new set and sold these haha...

I did however manage to get the broken head studs out of the old engine I had, so I can at least put that engine back in the 1960 for now, and hopefully get something running for the Tomball show. Welding a bolt to the broken stud worked great for me. A couple of them took 2 or 3 attempts, but they all came out. come to find out, all of the broken ones, actually had time-serts in them. So i bought a kit to replace those.

I should have it later this week, so maybe this weekend I can post some DIY tips on these things.
