So to fix this problem and still look like an oval clip a little trim was required. Actually a lot to bring the window back down on the roof.

And once all back together, it looks almost factory, allows for engine cooling and brings the window down on the roof. Does not look that noticiable until you compare to the original length of the vents!

Good lord, that's a lot of work to get that 'perfect balance' in the rear.
Can't imagine how much measuring twice, cut once had to happen before cutting into that oval clip?!
Excellent results, very well thought out.

Ok guys just so you know I did not cut this clip out of an oval but I did buy it! I would have much rather had the oval with the car. Anyways, here is what we started with, full oval clip, notice the long vents which on a chop top push the window way up on the roof and almost turn them into a sun roof.

Dude, that's my old back yard in TX, and my old oval clip :hillbilly:

Thanks guys it is really turning out nice! I am thinking of selling the 1974 Thing in the shop to make room and get the finish body work and paint on this project. So if ya know anyone looking for a clean 181 project that was bought new in Houston in 74 send them my way. It will need some work but is a really nice clean 181. Really clean chassis and pans correct motor and tranny. It was running 5 years ago and parked in storage and hs not been touched since. I pulled the tank as it was varnished up. Had new original style exhaust installed when parked. Body has minor dings and surface rust but all main body panels and front nose are all in good shape. The bad, missing the top assembly. The guy I purchased it from stored it in a barn and used it for bird hunting and they lost the top. The original side windows are in it but yellowed. Windsheild folds down no problem, wipers work, all lights work, has original Thing specific wheels and caps. Have not even thought of an asking price on this one. I will try to get a picture to post in the for sale section. It was bought for my son when he was 14 but he has no intrest in it so it needs to go to someone who will enjoy it. I just have too many verts already and can use the shop space and $ to finish out the chop.
