Its just a 40a relay, socket, and fuse holder with the right terminals. I got all that stuff laying around from the left overs of my megasquirt install.

Well I got 6.18V at the battery, 6.08V at the starter, and 6.06V at the generator. Started up the first time no prob. Didn't run it but a few seconds though. When cranking, I get 4.52V at starter and 4.39 at generator. Maybe one of those hot start relays is what I need.

i think its still over priced. He needs one for a 6v setup, this one will work http://www.fixthatford.com/index.php?ma ... bca395c0a9

A new battery cable is probably all you need, but a relay would help too.

I'm glad you got it back together and running. Hope you figure the starter problem out easily.

Biggest thing with 6volt sytems. contacts have to be clean clean clean.

I am not sure how important it is but I was told that 6v systems should have thicker battery cables as well.

yup 6v need thicker wire because of Ohm's Law: Amps=Watts/Volts and thats why Volkswagen went to lighter gauge wire when they switched over to 12v.

Ethan is absolutly right clean your contacts, especially your grounds.

Ya know I remember hearing this also. I have 4 gauge with brass ends but it wouldn't hurt to go bigger

Gonna pull the starter this weekend and give it a good cleaning. While I was under there I did clean up the body to trans ground real good. I didn't think about ohming that out but it was covered in oil and grease. Might as well just replace that also

Maybe... it is 3years old and most of that time it sat. Holds a charge though. Will load test test here in a bit and see what happens.

It was just too nice of a day not to drive it to work. Started up just fine and gave me 0 problems.
