Nice to see you back. Don't mind Boom  Any progress on the Ghia?

Hey man! Thanks for asking!

As far as progress; I look at it at least twice a day...

Actually, I have not touched the Ghia since I cut the floor pans out. I am ashamed. With the HS football season coming to a close and the weather being cooler, I am looking forward to start back at her. I never got around to picking up a welder as planned; I spent most of the available money on the Mustang. Looking forward to the welding!

Looking forward to seeing some progress. The weather is about perfect to work on your VW. Good luck with the welding, and let me know if you need anything 8-)

After helping out with Ryan on his project, I was itching to work on my project. I decided to tear down the motor I was given to see how bad it was. The previous owner had said that the engine had spun a bearing andthat he immediately shut it down and pulled the motor and put it aside.

Here are some pictures:

So it looks like the crank will need to be sent off for some machine work...

Thanks for the comments!

Any recommendations (hopefully not too far from me) on a machine shop for getting this crank and case machined? What would the typical costs be on something like this? Should I have anything else done while the pieces are at the shop?

Kermit line bores cases and he can exchange the crank for you also.

Do you know what he usually charges for the exchange and align boring?

The prices are 70 to align bore, 20 to cut the thrust, and 76 for the crank if yours can still be fixed. If not there is a slight core charge on the crank.
