Thanks guys. The only thing with the brakes thats going to take some fussing is the e-brake cables. 55's still have those crazy e-brake cables left over from the mechanical brake days that run all the way to the front of the car. The cables that come with the kit of course are made to attach at the e-brake lever, like 56 and up beetles. I'll fugure something out.

Nick: huge multi-piston brakes are over kill for a 1600 lb car. ;)

Nope, kept the same gears, still have close 3rd and 4th. Overall the gearing is a little lower though since I put the new wheels and tires on, the new rears are 24" tall, the old ones were 25".

Got my Koni adjustable shocks the other day and put them on. Also painted and installed the rear calipers...

Modified the number 1 and 3 bearings for better oil flow

Short block about ready to go together, I just need to put the gears on the crank and hang the rods...

When you fully collapse them there is an internal adjustment mechanism that is engaged. You then rotate one end of the shock and it changes the stiffness.
